Zoom has experienced a surge in users

During this pandemic the video chatting app which got the attention of the world is Zoom. Not just employers took advantage of the app for their meetings but the general public as well. The video conferencing application saw a flood of consumers during this coronavirus outbreak. As explained by the company that the numbers are increased from 10 million to 300 million active users per day, and that’s a lot.

But later on, the company changed its wording from daily users to daily meeting participants. As quoted by the company in a blog: “We are pleased to assist over 300 million daily meeting members to stay connected with each other in this pandemic coronavirus”. Further, they clarified the position through a blog by saying we unintentionally mentioned the members as a user’s or people. Later on, the company adjusted the word by replacing it with the participants.

These two wording represents totally different meanings. The daily active user or member counts as one per day, although the user or member come and go for more than a few times in a day. The daily meeting user, participants, or a member metric would count that same user as a new participant, member, or user every time they logged in to a zoom meeting.

Now through this interpretation, it makes it easier to understand and we can compare it with other competitors through stats. If we compare Zoom with Google Meet which is now a free service, it has more than 100 million daily meeting participants as reported by Google. And the numbers are getting bigger and bigger. If we see the Microsoft Teams stats then the CEO of Microsoft explained that the Microsoft Teams is having more than 75 million daily active users and last month it crossed the 200 million meeting participants.

As for Zoom they realize and accepted their mistake which was small but still mattered. But it is not new for Zoom as they found themselves in controversies every time. As the last time they face numerous privacy and security issues and at that time company also apologized and fixed some issues.
